Being a player on God's team

On a baseball team you have several positions.  The catcher, pitcher, short stop, first baseman, left fielder, center fielder, etc.  Which one of these positions is most important?  Is it where the ball tends most to be hit?  Is it the pitcher?  Is it the catcher?  Or are they all important in their own right and when all players are at their best they make up a great team?

My family and I live in the panhandle of Florida.  We were majorly affected by Hurricane Michael last year on October 10th.  I got involved in what they call a second disaster.   Which is basically a disaster that ensues because good people want to help but don’t know what to do so they just send items to the place that has been devastated without going through the right channels.  So, what happens is all of these donations (food, bottled water, canned goods, clothing, etc.) come in with no hands to help sort them and get them to the people that need them.  I got involved in helping sort the loads and loads of clothing that came in.  It was a very overwhelming task!  When I realized how overwhelming a task it was I reached out on facebook to anyone willing to come help!  I had volunteers come from all over the state of Florida.  They were from all faiths, Methodist, Baptist, Episcopal, Protestant, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and non-denominational.  Those folks all helped to get the clothes organized so that we could get it out to the people who needed it.

Each of those faiths have different views about things.  One thing they all agree on is that Jesus Christ is our savior.  He is the way, the truth and the life!  Which group of people is more important?  Which group has it all right?  This is a question I have been pondering for quite some time and we, as humans, can get really, really bogged down in trying to answer it.

This leads me to the next question, what is right for you?  Let’s look back at the game of baseball.  If you are a really good pitcher does that mean you are a really good catcher?  If you are a really good outfielder does that mean you are a really good third baseman?  Are you meant to play all positions on the team?  I can tell you the answer to that!  You are not meant to play all the parts!  You don’t even have to know how all the parts fit together.  That is not really our job because God is the owner of the team, and Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the coaches.  We don’t make the rules, we don’t see the ball coming up behind us, we don’t need to learn all the positions.  We just need to be good at the position God has called us to in the game today.  Tomorrow’s game we may be called to play a different position on the team but it’s okay because God is working it all out so we can win the world series:)

Living loved, freely and dancing into my divine design,

Elizabeth
