Yeast

Would you like to try a piece of homemade bread?

I was working on a lesson to be taught in Sunday School about the value of learning.  The lesson concentrated on our "duty" to continue to learn about God and his doctrine as we walk throughout our lives.  In the meantime, I was working on making homemade bread with my Culinary students at school.  Jesus taught with parables so I love that he is still allowing me to see analogies when it comes to certain truths he wants to show me.

I think when we concentrate on learning the doctrine without Jesus by our side it just becomes a bunch of rules to follow.  Without Jesus there is no love in the doctrine.  When you read scripture you should always run it through the filter that Jesus loves you.  This is why God did the things that he did long ago and still does today.  It is to bring his people back to his loving arms.

If you try to do anything apart from Jesus it will be like bread with no yeast.  It won't rise.

What kills yeast is hot water, salt and artificial sweetener.  You ever put yourself in hot water?  Are you trying to be the salt of the earth without Jesus?  You ever faked like you had it all together, like you loved someone, like you wanted to serve them?  None of this will work without Jesus inside of you.  You have to have the yeast or you won't rise!

Yeast has to permeate the whole batch of dough.  It takes time to do this.  It has to be kneaded and punched.  Once you ask Jesus in to your heart he has to permeate your entire being.  You have to be kneaded and punched.  This takes time!

So remember the next time you pick up your Bible, go to love or serve someone, is it you trying to do it without the yeast?  If so, it's probably not going to rise.
