Do you need a water break?

Thirsty?  Are you feeling the need to drink something?  Are you in need of water?  Are you feeling parched?

Water!  Water is so important to our daily lives.  I try to drink at least four 16oz bottles of water each day.

I began drinking water consistently in 2002.  I had gained a bunch of weight after giving birth to my 2nd child and had also quit smoking.   Water has no calories in it, it's good for me and at the time it kept me putting something to my mouth besides a cigarette.  It began a very good habit that I still keep today.  When I haven't had enough water for the day I can feel it in my body.

Why is water so important?  Let's see what google says,  "Our bodies are made up of 60% water.  The brain and heart are composed of 73% water and the lungs are about 83% water. Water forms saliva for digestion, keeps mucous membranes moist, allows body cells to grow, reproduce and survive, flushes body waste, lubricates joints, regulates body temperature, acts as a shock absorber for your brain and spinal cord, converts food to components needed for survival and digestion, and helps deliver oxygen all over your body".

If you didn't believe it before, I hope you believe it now, water is essential to our bodies.

Here is something I want you to ponder.  How do you lose the water that is in your body?
If you said using the bathroom then you are correct!  But let's also add that we lose it by sweat and tears.

One of the most compelling stories in the bible to me is the story about the woman at the well.  It is in John Chapter 4.  (I suggest you read it for yourself.)  The first thing I'd like to note is that Jesus just walked 93 miles. (According to google maps it is 150km from Judea to Galilee and then transfer that to miles).  Do you think he was parched?  sweaty?  thirsty?  I don't see how he couldn't have been, I mean he WAS human!!!  So as he is sitting there, parched, sweaty and thirsty, a woman approaches the well where he is sitting.  She has with her a water jar.  She walks up to Jesus and he says to her, "Please give me a drink."  Instead of giving him a drink she immediately questions him concerning his willingness to even speak to her because Jews do not normally associate with Samaritans.  Jesus then replies, "If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water."  So what is this living water that he is speaking of?  Is it him?  If it is him then how do I get his living water?  If you are a Christian then you already know how to receive his living water.  You ask him into your heart.  You say the sinner's prayer that goes something like this “Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.”

And that is about as simple as putting a water bottle to you mouth!  Let's continue with something else that Jesus says to this woman that makes me question the simplicity of the sinner's prayer and the partaking of this so called "living water."

Jesus goes on to tell her in verse 14 that those that drink the water that he gives will NEVER BE THIRSTY AGAIN!

I've been a Christian since I was 8 years old!  I asked Jesus into my heart, I said the sinner's prayer, I got baptized, I attended church, etc.  Am I still thirsty?  You bet!  But why, when I should NEVER be THIRSTY AGAIN?

Hang in there folks, the epiphany is coming...

When Jesus first started talking to her he mentioned that all she had to do was ask and he would give her living water.  I believe that this living water he is speaking of has many meanings.  The meaning I want to concentrate on is his word.  His word, the scriptures, are living and breathing.  Anytime I read the scriptures it feels personal, it speaks to me, it fills me up.

God has placed a divinity within you.  He placed a desire or thirst within you that cannot be satisfied by the things of this world.  When you were born it was already within you.  At no fault to our earthly parents they tried to satisfy that thirst the best they knew how...more milk, a pacifier, two fingers.  My Grandson, Ryder, has never really liked a pacifier but he puts two fingers in his mouth and sucks on them when he is upset, hurt, tired, etc.  I believe that we use many things to try to fill that thirst that we have within us that is the thirst for Christ.  Even Adam and Eve had a thirst.  God placed a thirst for him within them and they tried to fill that thirst with the knowledge of good and evil.   I have many days, especially at 5:00 in the afternoon, that I am extremely thirsty for something.  I usually turn to some type of snack around my house.  God has shown me that it is a thirst for more of him.  So how do we satisfy this thirst?  I believe it goes back to what Jesus told the woman at the well when he told her that all she had to do was ask and then he would give her living water.  Ask!

So, once you have asked him for that living water what should you do? I already told you I asked for him to come into my heart, but I still struggle with thirst on a daily basis.  That desire for thirst that he instilled in us from the very beginning is a thirst for his divine nature.  I thirst many times and reach for my water bottle many times throughout my day.  Do you think that we should reach for him, his words and his truth as much as we reach for that water bottle?  I think our body craves his living water more than our body craves actual water.  If our bodies, that God made, require 60% water to function then I know our spirits crave 100% of his spiritual water.

Something you can do to help you understand that you will never be thirsty again is to soak in that truth.  How do you soak it up and soak it in?  Start with prayer before you open your scriptures.  God knows how you are filling up your water jars.  God also knows which kind of water you need.  He will guide you to scripture that will fill you up.  He will speak truth to you.  He will give you specific water to swish around in your mouth and swallow.  Drink of his unconditional love, drink of his divine nature, drink of his truths.  He will guide you, he will teach you, he will fill you up with his words, he will fill you up with his living water.

I pray that the Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength.  You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever, flowing spring.  Isaiah 58:11.

I hope you're thirsty!
