Dance with Him

Here I am, sitting alone, most of my friends are on the dance floor, laughing and having fun.  There are only a few of us, insecure ones really, who are watching from the side lines.  Wanting to jump up and have fun too but we don't know the dance, we haven't practiced the dance and we don't want to look like fools.  So we sit, pretending like it doesn't bother us.  When asked why we didn't get up and dance we say, "I don't dance."  That answer is enough to suffice our friends from pushing and prodding us further to dance.  After a while I become jealous and envious of those who are not afraid to dance.  Sometimes the desire to dance is so strong that I decide I am going to do what it takes to learn how.  So the next time that song plays I will know what to do.  I won't feel insecure anymore.  So I take the time to learn the dance. Here I am, sitting with my friends, talking and laughing.  The song begins to play, my fr...

Life is not a line dance...but I wish it was.

Growing up I used to love to watch musicals.  I've always had a love for music.  I used to enjoy dancing around for my parents in our living room.  You could put on any song and I'd find a reason to dance to it.  As I reached middle school age I decided that dancing in front of people was embarrassing.  Especially if you didn't know what you were doing.  Freestyle dancing just seemed quite scary after I reached a certain age, especially in front of others.  As I got older it became more and more intimidating until I learned of such a thing as line dancing. Line dancing involves learning the steps and then putting those steps to music.  What's bad about line dancing or any kind of choreographed dances put to music is that it changes the way you listen to that music.  Once you learn a dance to a particular song from this point forward when you hear that song you will want to do that particular dance.  For example, can you listen to the...

Yeast

Would you like to try a piece of homemade bread? I was working on a lesson to be taught in Sunday School about the value of learning.  The lesson concentrated on our "duty" to continue to learn about God and his doctrine as we walk throughout our lives.  In the meantime, I was working on making homemade bread with my Culinary students at school.  Jesus taught with parables so I love that he is still allowing me to see analogies when it comes to certain truths he wants to show me. I think when we concentrate on learning the doctrine without Jesus by our side it just becomes a bunch of rules to follow.  Without Jesus there is no love in the doctrine.  When you read scripture you should always run it through the filter that Jesus loves you.  This is why God did the things that he did long ago and still does today.  It is to bring his people back to his loving arms.  If you try to do anything apart from Jesus it will be like bread with no yeast....

Who is God?

Dancing.  Just that one word invokes joy to my heart.  It invokes it because it involves music, rhythm and movement.  As I have developed my relationship with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit they have shown me many truths.  I don’t have all the answers you may be looking for but I have experiences that I’d like to share in hopes that it will make you want to know them better for yourself.   A few years ago I was sitting in the corner of a busy gym.  The gym was full of high school students either bumping a volleyball, playing basketball or walking around the edges.  It was a sight of chaos the same way that my life was feeling at the time. I’m always striving and wondering what my next step in life should be, where should I be headed, what should I be pursuing and I’m always second guessing if I’m on the right path.  As I was staring across the busy room I was looking directly at the other corner of the gym that was empty and Jesus came to min...

Being perfectly imperfect

I can't believe what the scale told me last night.  It was very mean to me.  I haven't seen it in a while and as soon as I did it, it immediately told me that I was fat and ugly.  Did the scale do that to you too?  I'm not shocked.  Usually when we try to stay away from him that means that we are playing hide and seek and you can't always win at hide and seek especially when your jeans are telling you that you better run to base before he catches you. So in my attempts to tell the scale that he is not going to tell me who I am and what to feel about myself I start searching somewhere else for some real truth about who I am.  If you haven't read my blog about Remember Who you Are maybe you should.  It will give you some insight into my struggle with body image.  I've struggled with it most of my life but I felt God give me some truths a few months ago and he continues to open my eyes. Truth be told I ultimately feel better when I exercise and ...

Your name goes here, ______________, you're free!

As soon as you say, "I believe in Jesus!"  its just like this scene from Disney's famous movie, Aladdin.  Click here to watch.   When Aladdin releases the Genie from his bottle his life was completely changed from that moment.  He could now be free.  Free to do whatever he wanted to do.  Free from the duty of fulfilling other peoples wishes.  Is that true for you?  Are you free?  Are your chains gone or are you all bottled up?  Do you believe it to be true?  Are you living freely? I'm not but oh how I wish I was.  I say I believe that I'm free but my behavior, my stress level and my life SCREAM something different!  I spend most of my days trying to please those around me or worse, please myself.  The older I get the more aware I become of my shortcomings and the more aware I become of trying to be someone I'm not. I used to love to dance around the living room when I was little.  I come from a family who lov...
